The Institute of General Semantics (IGS), Texas, selected Parekh for the award that is conferred on individuals for outstanding contributions and service to the cause of general semantics.
“Also the founder of Gujarat’s Balvant Parekh Centre for General Semantics and Other Human Sciences, Parekh will be conferred with the award during the Alfred Korzybski lecture on Oct 28 at the Princeton Club in New York,” the spokesperson said.
“I am grateful and honoured to receive the award. This award recognizes the importance of general semantics and the need for it to be implemented by each one of us to improve our quality of life,” Parekh said.
“The practising of general semantics can help mankind overcome several obstacles in communication, improve problem-solving and decision-making skills thereby enhancing the quality of communication and relationships,” he added.
General semantics is a discipline or methodology intended to improve the ways people interact with their environment and with one another.
The Balvant Parekh centre not only engages in academic pursuit of the discipline of general semantics as a philosophical discipline, but also promotes its awareness in the context of everyday practices.
