Pandit Jasraj sings in Antarctica
January 22nd, 2012 - 3:08 am ICT by IANSMumbai, Jan 21 (IANS) In a rare achievement, noted classical singer Pandit Jasraj, who is 82, gave a performance at the South Pole, becoming the first Indian to do so.
The concert was held on Jan 8, at the Antarctic Circle aboard the Sea Spirit Cruise - Oceanus Lounge, a statement said Saturday.
The Padma Vibhubhushan awardee is expected to return Jan 22.
With this performance, Jasraj has performed in all the seven continents, the statement said.
In 2010, the octogenarian singer had toured the North Pole accompanied by his wife Madhura Pandit Jasraj - daughter of legendary film director V. Shantaram.
Pandit Jasraj belongs to the ‘Mewati Gharana’.
