Oz women dumping clothes just a week after wearing them!

Melbourne, July 27 (ANI): Ladies Down Under are going on a shopping spree buying cheap clothes, and then are dumping the garments in the back of the wardrobe or charity shops after wearing them for just a week, a new report has found.

Australian women aged under 30 bought, on average, 112 garments a year - double that of women aged over 30, the Council of Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia report found.

By comparison, the average male bought 29 items of clothing a year.

TCTFIA executive director Jo Kellock said young people had become victims of the fast fashion phenomenon, where cheap clothing was dropped into stores more frequently - often weekly.

There are now concerns about the environmental impact of disposable fashion and where the clothing ends up once its use-by date is up or it is replaced by the next fleeting trend.

“Our concern is that poor quality product clogs the supply chain, and when we”ve got all these wonderful and creative designers within the industry, our focus needs to be on the front end of the supply chain,” the Courier Mail quoted Kellock, as saying.

“We”re being told to be environmentally aware of the impact of our purchases, yet we have poor quality product that doesn”t fit and often can”t be sold, she added. (ANI)
