Orissa sculptor wins prize in Moscow

Bhubaneswar, May 15 (IANS) Orissa-based sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik’s sculpture of Mona Lisa, won the people’s choice prize at the 3rd Moscow World Sand Sculpture Championship in Russia.

“I created a two-meter high sculpture of Mona Lisa along with a huge paint brush,” Pattnaik told IANS over phone.

“My sculpture got first place in the people’s choice category and won a gold. I received the medal and trophy in an award ceremony from the organising committee chairman,” he said.

Pattnaik was the only Indian to participate in the competition held May 4-11. The theme was masterpieces of Italian art.

Pattnaik has participated in more than 37 international sand sculpture championships across the globe and has won many awards.
