New York, Dec 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a major blow to the lesbians and the gays, the New York State Senate has rejected the Same Sex Marriage bill.

The votes against the bill were 38 and in favor were only 24, thus by a margin of 14 votes this crucial bill to Gay and Lesbian rights was rejected in the New York State Senate.

The gay and the lesbian community as well as their supporters met this news with disdain too. It started off a huge debate on the social networking and micro-blogging site Twitter as well. People were blasting the move. @mpoppel of BNO NEWS was amongst the first ones to voice his anger at this when he tweeted that, “Sad to see that same-sex marriage was rejected in New York.”

@benpolitico of POLITICO.com said that. “In NY, classic collapse I think: A number of Sens. willing to be the 32nd vote, none willing to be 25th.”

@Lover_of_Sushi tweeted, “I am a second class citizen!! RT @BreakingNews New York Senate votes 38-24 against legalizing gay marriage - NBC News

The New York Speaker Quinn was also sad at this historic development. He voiced his sadness as, “Today the New York State Senate rejected an opportunity to declare that all citizens in New York are equal.”

There were impassioned pleas from many progressive members of the body, but they all fell on deaf ears as the legislature came down on the side of religious conservatism and morality disavowing the civil rights of gay and lesbian citizens of the state.
