New mums labelled Dummy Mummy for talking only about their babies
March 31st, 2011 - 4:31 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 31 (ANI): A study of modern day parenting jargon has revealed that Yummy Mummy has been replaced by nicknames for women rendered brain dead or forgetful by their children.
And top of the list is Dummy Mummy, a label which is given to new mothers, who have a tendency to think that everyone is just as interested as they are in their baby and keep on talking about nothing else.
According to a poll commissioned for the launch of the DVD release of bringing up baby comedy Life As We Know It, Dummy Mummy is closely followed by Pramnesia, which describes forgetfulness caused by child-rearing.
The terms, which are among those used by modern parents, also included Dadmin, which refers to jobs particularly suited to Dads.
The study also revealed that a Baby Gaga is a toddler who likes to show off and Nansformer is the grandparent who goes from little old lady to multi-tasking supergran as soon as she has a grandchild to cope with.
Others that came out of the research include Code Brown to describe the need to change a nappy and Calpoholics, children who are given medicine so often to keep them quiet they become hooked.
Disnefying It is what parents do to mundane places to make them sound exciting to children, such as telling them “We’re going to Asdaland today where we can go on the trolley ride!”
“The term Dummy Mummy is used to describe a new mother who has lost the capacity to talk about anything other than her new born child!” the Daily Mail quoted a spokesman for the survey as saying.
“Further slang alluded to the remarkable abilities of grandparents when it comes to providing baby help (Nansformer) and the soaring cost of childcare (Nanny McFee),” the spokesman added.
The other jargons include, the Naughty Two-Step, a ritual dance performed by child to demonstrate reluctance to go and sit on the naughty step.
And Pump and Dump, meaning pre-expressed milk before mum’s night out with the girls (so she doesn’t get the baby drunk when she returns). (ANI)
