Mysore, Oct 5 (IANS) People from across Karnataka and from other states and abroad are arriving here to witness the famed ‘jumboo savari’ (procession of caparisoned elephants) Thursday — the last day of Dasara festivities.

The city of palaces, about 130 km from Bangalore, is decked up for ‘Vijayadashami’, the 10th and concluding day of the festivities marking the triumph of good over evil.

The ‘jumboo savari’, comprising 12 elephants with lead tusker Balarama carrying the 750 kg golden ‘howdah’ (seat) with the idol Hindu goddess Chamundeshwari, is the main attraction of the 10-day festivities here.

Balarama, weighing around 5,000 kg, will be carrying the ‘howdah’ for the 13th time.

Also part of the procession will be 34 tableaux, one each from the state’s 30 districts and the remaining four from state government enterprises.

Hundreds of school children and 50 groups of folk artists will perform during the procession.

Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will flag off the three-hour procession that will wind through main avenues of the city.
