Most expensive Swedish painting sold for over $3.1 million

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (BNO NEWS) – A world record for a Swedish artist and the highest price ever paid at an auction in Sweden was set on Tuesday, Stockholms Auktionsverk said.

The masterpiece Sommarnoje by the Swedish artist Anders Zorn was sold at Stockholms Auktionsverk in Stockholm for 26.000.000 SEK, which is equivalent to €2.600.000 or $3,111,189.32.

The painting is a watercolour painted in 1886 at Dalaro, when Anders Zorn was 26 years old and happily newly married. It is his wife Emma that is depicted on the jetty.

Anders Zorn is considered one of the world’s foremost watercolour painters and his skill at depicting the variations and reflections of the water’s surface are unsurpassed in this very difficult technique.
