January 21st, 2011 - 11:16 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, Jan 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Susan Maushart has done a very crazy experiment that shocked her family to the core. She challenged her family to unplug for half a year. That is, bid goodbye to their iPods, laptops and even TV.
She has 3 teenage children and they were bereft of their Internet, TV, mobile phones, video games and iPods. The result of the experiment changed their lives forever and Susan has even written a book about the whole experience. The book is aptly titled as ‘The Experiment’ and it is published by Penguin and retailing for $16.95.
As the family could no longer enjoy electronic devices so they re-discovered other forgotten pleasures like books, board games, picnics and collectively listening to music, instead of everyone immersed in their own iPods.
Susan’s son Bill used to a TV and video game addict and in the ‘unplugged 6 months’ he started enjoying the saxophone. Susan writes in her book that, “He swapped Grand Theft Auto for the Charlie Parker songbook.” And even when the electronics curfew ended, then also he continued with his musical journey. He even went to the extent of selling off his game console and currently he is pursuing music in college.
