Lahore , June 10 (ANI): Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif may be freed soon from Dubai , but more problems might be in store for him at home, as the PCB is said to be planning to try him under WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) regulations for possessing hashish while being caught at the Dubai Airport .

PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf said that Asif could even be suspended from playing cricket over the incident.

We are hopeful he will be released and allowed to return home but since it is an incident involving drugs no matter how small the quantity, he could be suspended from playing cricket until the inquiry is conducted against him, the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

He added: It is too early to say anything, but yes our anti-doping regulations are now compliant with the WADA and in this particular case also we have to follow their regulations.

Asif was detained in Dubai on June 1 for alleged drug possession, while returning home after playing in the Indian Premier League.

Nasim said the Board had used all legal and diplomatic channels to get Asif back home. I dont know if they decide to deport him or just send him back home. But at the moment our first priority is he is cleared of this case which is bad for Pakistan cricket. Our lawyer and official met with Asif in detention and he is keeping his spirits high but obviously this matter cannot end immediately, Nasim added. (ANI)
