McQueen’s label will ‘live on’: Gucci bosses
February 19th, 2010 - 2:47 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Feb 19 (IANS) Bosses of fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s clothing company have said that they will continue the brand in honour of the late designer.
Contactmusic.com reports that in a moving tribute, Francois Henri-Pinault, chairman of holding company PPW, called MCQueen a “pure genius” and a “poet”.
“You understand, the Alexander MCQueen trademark will live on. Fashion has lost one of its extraordinary people. He was one of the falling stars that comes across our generation. He is a person we will miss enormously,” added Henri-Pinault.
Robert Polet, president of PPW subsidiary The Gucci Group, which owns a 50 percent stake in the Alexander MCQueen label, said: “We believe in the future of the brand.”
The fashion icon was found hanging at his apartment in London last week, and a post-mortem later confirmed he had died from asphyxiation.
It has not yet been announced whether McQueen’s upcoming show in Paris next month is on or not.
