Malayalam writer Sukumar Azhikode’s health worsens
January 22nd, 2012 - 10:08 pm ICT by IANSThrissur (Kerala), Jan 22 (IANS) Malayalam writer and orator Sukumar Azhikode’s health has deteriorated and he continues to be unconscious, according to a medical bulletin issued Sunday evening by a team of doctors at a private hospital here.
After being detected with bone cancer, he was admitted to hospital Dec 7, 2011 and his condition has deteriorated in the past few days.
In 1986, he retired as pro-vice chancellor of Calicut University. The 85-year-old bachelor won 12 awards, including the Sahitya Akademi award.
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy visited Azhikode after the medical bulletin was released. He had earlier announced that the state government would foot the writer’s medical bill.
