Ludhiana, June 18 (ANI): Showcasing why it is said there is no age to learn, an elderly woman has cleared the Punjab Secondary Board examination for standard X at the age to 70 along with her granddaughter here.
Apart from playing the role of a guardian grandmother to her grandchildren at home, Malkit Kaur wanted to complete her matriculation. And, she realized her long cherished dream after her granddaughter Mandip Kaur encouraged her.
“When I was a kid, I couldn’t complete my primary studies, due to some personal problems even though I was inclined towards completing my education. Then after my marriage, most of my time was spent in listening to radio programmes, watching TV or at times reading newspapers. I also used to enjoy reading my father’s letters that he used to send while being away due to his Army postings,” said Malkit Kaur, the granny.
“My granddaughter considering my curiosity in studies started guiding me with the studies which she used to do and decided that both of us will appear in the matriculation exam this year and now with her efforts I got 55 per cent, she informed.
The granddaughter helped her grandma in her studies and both of them decided to appear for exams together.
“She was very keen in studies from her childhood days but couldn’t accomplish it due to some reasons. I could see her inclination towards whatever I studied. She wanted to do something in her life like other educated people. This inspired me to guide her through the studies which I did,” said Mandip Kaur, the grand daughter.
Malkits huband and neighbours are also delighted on her recent academic success.
“I am feeling very excited with the fact that not only my wife but even my granddaughter has also passed out with such good marks. I am glad that both of them have made our village feel proud of them,” said Harbans Singh, Malkit’s husband.
However, both the grandma and the granddaughter are now eager to pursue studies together in future.
Meanwhile, Malkit with her success has also set an example before her daughter-in-laws who always complain being too old to pursue studies any more! (ANI)
