New York, Dec 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the festive season in the air, and with a nip in the air, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. A recent survey has revealed that light-colored alcohol drinks have a lower severity of hangover as compared to the darker alcohol drinks.
The researchers in the Brown University Center conducted a survey for Alcohol and Addiction Studies and the researchers in the University of Michigan Medical School. Teams of perfectly healthy, but compulsive drinkers were selected by the researchers to assist them in their study. The study was conducted for two weeks, over two evenings. In the experiment the volunteers were given different types of alcoholic drinks to drink.
And it was found that the volunteers who had the light colored drinks like vodka or white wine didn’t have that much of a hangover as compared to the ones who had the dark colored alcoholic drinks. The former group said that they felt better compared to the latter group. Darker drinks are the worst choices, the study says. The research, to be published in the journal “Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research,” found that darker drinks have more chemical byproducts than light ones.
Even though the hangover severity was reduced, the other negative aspects of drinking remained the same. Because the study also found that even though the imbibers who consumed white wine or vodka said they felt better, they performed just as badly when they reported to work the next day, as did those suffering due to red wine and whiskey.
