Komal Sood creates flower-inspired collection for WIFW (With Images)
March 29th, 2011 - 12:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 29 (IANS) Kolkatta-based designer Komal Sood is all set to enthrall fashion connoisseurs at next month’s autumn-winter edition of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) with her creations, which she says are inspired by the lyrical and textural appeal of the Birds of Paradise flower.
“The collection is inspired by a flower that in its spectacular shape, colours and spirit evokes poetic reactions. The silhouette resembles a brightly coloured bird in flight; the cuts and embellishments personify the diva who walks the red carpets,” Sood told IANS.
Her design sensibility epitomises refinement and luxury in fashion and the essence of the brand is youthful elegance, chic glamour and sophistication.
“The label presents evening wear line with design philosophy is distinctively feminine and refined,” she said.
Under the guidance of her family business, Burlingtons of Kolkata (a fashion house for men), she began her training in fashion retail, merchandising and production and launched her Komal Sood label in 2005.
The designer is excited about her participation in the fashion week starting April 6 and says the ensembles are meticulously crafted by combining corsetry with tailoring and drapery.
“Rich silk flat chiffons, georgettes, satins and taffetas go ornamental with silhouettes that are luxuriously fluid and at the same time draped in controlled structure. The collection is an amalgamation of ancient heritage and modern twist with a mission to a continuous quest for craftsmanship, glamour and reverie,” Sood explained.
“My collection is meant for all those young girls who want to flaunt their feminine side with a lot of oomph and glamour,” added the designer, who is known for her fluid silhouettes, defined cuts and eclectic embroidery.
Her designs are the most sought after for red carpets and glamorous events and she, therefore, retails from India as well as abroad.
She has a flagship store at South City Mall in Kolkata. In Delhi she retails from three stores - Kimaya, Ogaan and Ensemble.
As far as stores in foreign countries are concerned, she has a store called The Grand Trunk in San Francisco and Absolute Fashion in Dubai.
