Jan. 02, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A recent survey has revealed that while hangover after a bout of heavy drinking cannot altogether be avoided, the intensity can always be lessened by choosing the right colored “poison”. The report is going to be published in the next issue of a science journal. The study was conducted over a period of two evenings, stretched over two weeks. 95 young men and women participated in the study, none of whom had any health problems and had not suffered from sleep disorder at any point of time.
In each study, the participants had been given a different kind of alcohol, based on color, in huge amounts. The next day, they had to report to work. It was found that those who had consumed lighter colored drinks like vodka or white wine, invariably felt better the next day, irrespective of their physical constitution. However, those who had downed darker colored beverages like red wine, spiced rum or bourbon, reported a heavy hangover and definite unease the next day. Interestingly, however, both parties reported that irrespective of the kind of drink they had binged upon, they proved to be equally inept at work the next day.
The study showed that the darker colored drinks are likely to affect the intensity of a hangover, although lighter colored drinks don’t make one any more adequate at work. To avoid a terribly painful hangover, it is best to steer clear of bourbons, as they are likely to cause the most horrible hangovers. This is because such dark liquors contain a greater amount of chemicals and toxins that contribute to the phenomenon of a hangover.
