Inflation affecting living standards in China
December 22nd, 2011 - 7:42 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Dec 22 (IANS) Inflation appears to have hit the lifestyle of people in China with a survey finding that about 70 percent of the Chinese had their standard of living adversely affected by rising prices.
The latest figures are a 10 percent rise since 2008, the China Daily quoted the Beijing News citing a survey published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
The 2011 survey on Chinese people’s life sampled 480 villages, 100 counties and five cities in the country’s 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, and garnered 6,468 responses from urban and rural residents.
In the survey, although nearly 40 percent of the respondents complained about not being able to afford proper housing, about 72 percent of the people — especially, rural residents — still feel they lead a better life than they used to five years ago.
