Nov 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After a journey spanning more than eight decades, the iconic car brand Pontiac is now officially out of the market. The legendary car brand has gone out of business almost a year after its parent company General Motors declared its shutdown in a bid to restructure the company. This is indeed a sad demise of the iconic car brand, which at the pinnacle of its popularity in the 1960’s is known to have sold more than one million models.
After it was launched in the 1920’s, the Pontiac went on to gain wide fame in the 1960’s and was featured in a number of Hollywood projects that contributed in making it a rage among car-lovers. However, the iconic car brand was not without its own share of struggles as in the 1950’s, its sales plummeted considerably and it was almost on the verge of extinction. However, Pontiac was revived by General Motors by giving it the muscle-car image after associating the car was drag-racing that gained extensive popularity. On Sunday, General Motors contract with the Pontiac dealers come to an end which marked the official end of the legendary car brand.
Even prior to the bankruptcy of General Motors, Pontiac was already in troubled waters after it sales has dipped to a large extent from the peak of about one million in the year 1968. In the wake of the bankruptcy, General Motors took the decision to shut down the iconic car brand and the last Pontiac was manufactured in the month of May this year.
