Washington, January 24 (ANI): Sticking to New Year’s resolutions can be hard. So experts have come up with five tips to help you achieve your goals this year.
William Manard, M.D., Saint Louis University assistant professor of family and community medicine, and Gillian Stephens, M.D., SLU assistant professor of family and community medicine insist that making healthy changes in life is not impossible.
Here are their 5 tips:
Set attainable goals- Manard feels unreasonable goals should be avoided and realistic aims should be made.
Have a support system- Spending time with people who will help you achieve your goals can be instrumental to success.
Hold yourself accountable- According to Stephens, New Year’s resolutions generally fail because they are just as easy to dismiss as they are to make.
He says: “Making an appointment with your doctor and verbalizing your goals will help hold you accountable. Look at your family physician as your coach - we’re on the same team and want the same results, and can provide you with the necessary tools and encouragement to achieve success.”
Be positive- Stephens recommends rather than focusing on what you’re giving up, concentrate on the rewards of your hard work.
Persevere- Manard insists asking questions to yourself is a good habit. He believes perseverance can help achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Manard concluded: “Any time of year is a good time to make healthy lifestyle changes; the beginning of a new year simply offers an easy-to-identify, traditional time to change. What’s most important is that the individual has the necessary time and energy to devote to making these changes.” (ANI)
