Pasenda, California, Jan 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The online dating site eHarmony based in Pasenda, California which says that it uses questionnaire which is scientifically developed in order to help people find their partners and promises that it will help one find “relationships that last,” appears not to work for homosexuals. Since it did not welcome the gay and lesbian community warmly, it definitely did hurt their sentiment and they claimed their rights.
Now it is going to welcome gay singles as warmly as it does heterosexual people who are in search of a date under a settlement in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. A large number of Californian gays tried to connect to same-sex partners but, failed to do so. They claimed civil rights and demanded for the same privilege which is granted to the heterosexuals. They wanted eHarmony online dating site to provide them with the required services. They demanded that there should be a separate link for gays and lesbians which should be explicit and prominent. Like on the home page there should be a link saying “gay dating” as there are links for black, Christian, Jews etc.
Based on a settlement which is filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles, eHarmony is now going to connect people to the straight as well as gay web sites allowing them to choose their desired date without paying double fees. Todd Schneider, the plaintiff’s attorney reported that eHarmony agreed that they will pay $500,000 to almost 150 Californians in order to settle the matter. In addition to that they will pay $1.5 million in court as attorney’s fees. They will also have to give $2 million fund which includes $500,000 for gays, lesbians and bisexuals who were disappointed with eHarmony’s services.
