Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) As Halloween approaches, many family are feeling too much financial strain to even consider going to a department store and purchasing an expensive costume for Halloween. Yet these parents may not wish for their kids to miss out on the festivals, costume parties, and, of course, ‘Trick or Treating’.

One solution to this dilemma is do it yourself costumes. Using items you have at home, or things you can get from a second hand store, you can create cute, fun, and exciting costumes for almost nothing. Here are a few ideas:

Clown- Using clothes which are very baggy, try adding colors with spray paint, markers, or even tie dye. Add huge pom poms, a cheap wig or a hat, and make up your face, and voila! Instant clown suit. You can also create a scarecrow in much the same way, using overalls or jeans and a flannel shirt.

1960’s Hippy- Tie dye clothing, long wigs, headbands, fringe, bug sunglasses, etc.

Mummy- Wrap yourself in bandages. Make up your face with white makeup and draw age lines on the face.

Crash Test Dummy- Using a sweatsuit, and tape create the crash test dummy. You may also wish to add bandages and fake blood for more effect.

That is only a few of the many ideas for do it yourself costumes. Look in the closet, and visit your local second hand stores, and see what you come up with!
