Distrust of men doesn’t stall low-income mums from romance
December 3rd, 2009 - 5:15 pm ICT by ANIWashington, December 3 (ANI): A study has found that a strong general feeling of distrust towards men did not prevent low-income women from getting into romantic unions.
Experts discovered that ninety-six percent of low-income mums who participated in the study indicated distrust towards the opposite sex.
Their individual experiences with uncertainty and poverty and histories of domestic violence or sexual abuse directly had an impact on the type of interpersonal trust they chose to enact, it was observed.
However, the union was often later tagged by some of the women as “trusting,” despite their prior assertions of distrust and insecurity.
The authors argued that reducing the use of alternative forms of trust (e.g., misplaced) would allow women to spend time forging intimate partnerships that are more likely to lead to strong, lasting, healthy marriages.
The study was published in the December 2009 issue of the Journal of Marriage and Family. (ANI)
