Contest for national design quality mark
May 16th, 2011 - 6:58 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 16 (IANS) The India Design Council, the national strategic body for design in India, has called for entries for a new India Design Mark symbol.
The India Design Mark is a proposed marking symbol that will be awarded to deserving products, services, objects and other works that conform to the processes and standards that are set by the council to help define good design, the India Design Council Monday said in a statement.
The entries will be judged by a panel of eminent jurors from the design industry and chaired by Naushad Forbes. The designer of the winning symbol will also receive a cash prize of Rs.50,000.
“In recent times, Indian designers have received critical acclaim across the globe for the creative and unique nature of their work in various fields. The introduction of the India Design Mark will raise the bar further, as it will function as a mark of quality assurance,” Anand Mahindra, chairman of the India Design Council, said.
The India Design Mark certification will be conferred on products across various categories like packaging, lighting, electrical equipment, white goods, home and office devices, public and commercial products, home furniture, office furniture, sports, games and personal products, transportation, building components, capital goods and medical devices.
This initiative is the outcome of the collaboration between the India Design Council and the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organisation (JIDPO) and is modelled on the G-Mark - the Japanese good Design selection award.
Through the India Design Mark certification, the India Design Council aims to raise the profile of Indian design by giving a broader recognition to the use of design, documenting cases of good design and encouraging and demonstrating the use and value of good design.
Any Indian resident (both professional artists and non-professionals) can participate and submit entries for the symbol.
