China to build five-star toilet
July 23rd, 2012 - 6:04 pm ICT by IANSShanghai, July 23 (IANS) It’s not an ordinary restroom. A five-star facility will come up at a tourist site in China’s Sichuan province that will have a lounge, a tea-table, a TV set and a fish tank. It will also have Wi-Fi access. And, yes, it will also have the seat!
One of four public restrooms at the Du Fu Thatched Cottage, which is the residence of Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) poet Du Fu, in the provincial capital of Chengdu will be renovated to meet “five-star” standards.
The other three will be upgraded to “star-rated” status, Shanghai Daily quoted a spokesperson from the Du Fu museum as saying.
The total investment is estimated at 5.23 million yuan ($821,600).
The five-star toilet will resemble an ancient courtyard, with toilets for the disabled and elderly. There will be a room for nursing mothers and a lounge equipped with chairs, a tea table, a TV set, a fish tank and Wi-Fi access.
A poll on a social networking site Weibo, however, showed 90 percent of over 700 respondents opposed the renovations as they saw it as a waste of money.
