Chia - from pets to cake recipes?

chia July 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new study has revealed that chia seeds which have been used for recipes for pets can be used to make gel, which can in turn reduce the fat percentage in cakes.

In the cakes, generally eggs or oil reduce the fat percentage, but this new discovery may change the usage of eggs in the making of cakes. A research team at the Center of Excellence in Products and Processes Córdoba in Argentina, which is being led by Dr. Rafael Borneo used a gel, which was made by chia seeds and water and made 3 different kinds of cakes constituting 25 percent, 50 percent and 75 percent instead of eggs or oil in cake recipes.

A group of 75 adults ate these cakes as “part of their typical diet pattern”. The cakes that had 25 percent of chia gel were the overwhelming favorite of the whole group who had eaten the cake. Those that had 50% and 75% also had a very decent taste. Using 25% of chia gel in cakes reduced the fat content, and it was also the tastiest option of the 3 varieties of the cakes.

Chia seeds have been reported to have a lot of health benefits for a long time, and this new investigation only tries to emphasize that.
