Thiruvananthapuram, May 3 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would May 10 unveil a tourism campaign on the 17th century Bekal Fort in Kasargode district, a minister said Thursday.

Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar told reporters here that the campaign would be called “Know Bekal”.

“By the end of the year, six luxury resorts would be ready in the nearly 260 acre area of the Bekal tourist spot and it would include a hill station, backwaters and house boats plying on the Chithira river,” said Anil Kumar.

A new promotional campaign would showcase the rapid transformation taking place in and around Bekal.

The Bekal Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1640 and spread over an area of 40 acres, is currently protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

“From now on Bekal would be showcased at all the travel marts that Kerala Tourism takes part in across the globe,” said the minister.

“We already have a record 3.2 lakh tourist arrival at the destination and expect it to touch six lakh by 2015,” he said.

State-run Bekal Resorts’ managing director I.C. Mahesh said efforts were being made to develop rail and air links in the area.
