Britons prefer spending more on TV than car
December 2nd, 2011 - 1:13 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Dec 2 (IANS) While most of us may spend more on the upkeep of our family car, a lot of young Britons will prefer spending more on their first TV set.
A study has found one in five Britons admitting that their current television cost more than their first car.
The survey, carried out by a discount website MyVoucherCodes, revaled how an average Briton aged between 18 and 30 spends just 500 pounds on their first car whereas they spent an average 700 pounds on their first television.
That’s when you can easily pick up a 32-inch HD flatscreen for less than 300 pounds.
But the 1,993 adults polled view a TV as an ‘investment’.
The majority of the people survyed said that their reason for doing so was because they would have their TV for long time than their car.
When those who said they had spent more on their current TV than on their first car were asked to explain their reason, the majority — 67 per cent — said it was a better investment because ‘it would last longer’ - which certainly maybe the case when a car is just 500 pounds.
Another 29 percent said it was simply because they would ‘rather have a decent TV’.
Asked what maximum amount they would like to spend on their next television, the majority — 51 percent –claimed they would pay 1,200 pounds.
