Artist Damien Hirst to attend India Art Fair
September 5th, 2011 - 5:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) The fourth edition of India Art Fair, formerly known as the India Art Summit, Jan 25-29 will play host to top international contemporary artists like Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley, who will address seminars on contemporary art practises.
The fair to be held at the NSIC Ground near Okhla Industrial Estate in the capital, a shift from the Pragati Maidan, will feature 95 galleries of which 42 will represent 19 countries.
Twenty-nine galleries will be from nations which will take part in the fair for the first time, a statement by India Art Fair said Monday.
The first-time nations include Argentina, Abu Dhabi, Korea, Colombia, Greece, Iran and South Africa.
The foreign participants are from Argentina, Australia, Britain, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, UAE, and the US.
According to a spokesperson for the fair, the foreign participation will include a mix of established and new galleries.
While several leading art houses like Hauser & Firth, Kalfayan Galleries and Galleria Continua will represent top artists from Europe, new galleries like Galerie Carles Tache, Galerie Fernando Pradilla from Spain, Galeria El Museo from Colombia and Tasneem Gallery from Cuba will show emerging cutting-edge art.
Tasneem will bring to India a selection of art by Ernesto Leal, one of Cuba’s most well-known contemporary artist.
Representation from new territories at the art fair will include Everard Read from South Africa, one of the respected galleries which has more of a museum-like presence in South Africa.
Salwa Zeidan Gallery from South Africa and Green Cardamom will present new art from Africa and South Asia respectively.
The indigenous participation which has registered a quantum increase will include seven first-time participants from Jaipur and Hyderabad.
The 12 solo projects by individual artists will be hosted by Apparao Galleries (Chennai), Gallery Artchill (Jaipur), Ignacio Liprandi Arte Contemporanea (Argentina), Karen Woodbury Gallery (Australia), Latitude 28 (Delhi), Nature Morte/Galleyske (New Delhi/Bangalore), Religare Arts Initiative Ltd (Delhi), Sarah Scout(Australia), Tasneem Gallery (Spain), The Guild (Mumbai); Chatterjee and Lal and Chemould Prescott Road (Mumbai).
The venue will be spread across an area of 12,000 square metres and will be designed by award-winning space designer Sumant Jaikishan, while a Britain-based production consultant will conceive the fair.
