Alice Waters: Trendsetter for relishing food

Alice Waters is famous for her fresh ingredients which she adds in her dishes to make them special. In one of her memorable dinners she had prepared trout with almonds and raspberry tart, which according to her, gained specialty because the trout was fresh taking from the stream and the raspberries were plucked from the garden. Alice Waters, who is also the owner of Chez Panisse restaurant, claims to have her own meat, poultry, fish and vegetable farms, garden of fruits. The key ingredients for several dishes are gathered aiming to sustain the immediacy and freshness in the preparation. As known to most, Chez Panisse restaurant was named Best Restaurant in America by Gourmet magazine in 2001.

Ms.Waters who has a flair for food and acknowledges passionate foodies also is a good observer when it comes to representation of culture in the food and candidly expresses that Mc Donald’s is same everywhere and the food does not represent the culture of the place it is located from any angle. She is a native of New Jersey, but her travel to Paris has added to her exploration of dishes and food. Paris is the place where she eventually tasted fresh oysters and mussels ,and before that her taste was limited to fish sticks which were served by her mother. She loved the care the people in Paris took to serve even a simple meal.

Ms. Waters who is already 65 years old, hopes that President Obama will assert the need of teaching food habits , ecology and gastronomy in public schools as after traveling around she feels that the mass is unaware of health fitness and there is a lot of cultural and environmental crisis. She refers back to President Kennedy’s statement of making every child physically fit.
