A tribute to Mughal era through fashion, food, music
December 15th, 2009 - 4:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) It was a journey to the bygone era which had everything –starting from sufiana music to qawwalis, from mushaira to a fashion show topped with a large spread of delicacies like rista and biryani.
Khushii, an NGO, had joined hands with designer duo Ashima-Leena to host the event ‘Nawabi Andaaz-e-Bayaan’ to celebrate history and recreate the splendour and the elegance of the golden days of the Mughal era here Monday.
“It is an attempt to re-visit the Mughal era because that was the time of elegance and sophistication. Be it fashion, food or music — the era was beautiful in every sense,” Leena told IANS.
The sprawling farm house-venue was decorated with flowers with the aroma of gulab attar (rose perfume) lingering in the air. Strains of sufiana music echoed in the background even as a game of shatranj (chess) was on. A ‘mushaira’ and ‘qawwalis’ were followed by the fashion show of Mughal couture by Ashima-Leena.
Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev and his wife walked the ramp and received a full round of applause from the audience.
The line had an elegant range of ‘anarkalis’, lehengas and sherwanis with intricate ‘gota’ work to complement the theme of the Mughal period.
