9 out of 10 Aussie women ‘think they are fat’
May 4th, 2009 - 5:32 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, May 4 (ANI): Girls just can’t stop panicking about their weight, at least that’s what a new Australian survey has found - nine out of 10 women Down Under have regular “fat days” and most are miserable about their bodies.
The survey, by Melbourne’s RMIT and La Trobe universities, found that over two-thirds of women feel uncomfortable looking at themselves in the shower.
Nearly fifty percent feel fat every day and desperately want to lose weight, reports the Daily Telegraph.
Almost one third of women surveyed were trapped in a “vicious cycle” of repeatedly checking their stomach, thighs and buttocks to see how much they could let themselves eat.
And the survey’s principal investigator Adrian Schembri has said that such an attitude has made them anxious and distressed.
Only one in 10 women, who participated in the continuing online survey, showed no dissatisfaction with their weight.
The study comes as young girls are now being given lessons on body image in the hope that it may save them from developing eating disorders such as anorexia.
Called ‘BodyThink’ classes, the girls are taught to boost their self-esteem and bolster their confidence by learning to love their bodies. (ANI)
