dataDec 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The year 2010 is a major year for the global car industry. The Japanese giant Toyota received its biggest setback this year with millions of its popular models being recalled owing to technical glitches. On the other hand, its rival GM reclaimed its glory by emerging out of the shadow of bankruptcy and launching its much touted all electric car Volt. Nissan also launched the Leaf which it claims is the car with zero carbon footprint. However, there were some other models which were launched this year that also got rave reviews and sold in good numbers. GM made a turnaround this year and some of its models launched this year sold well. The Chevrolet Corsa Ute enjoyed a great run in South Africa.

While Toyota was down owing to a number of recalls and lawsuits in 2010, its rival Honda enjoyed success with the launch of its compact car Jazz. It is a class above the regular entry level cars and is doing well in both home and other markets. Korean contender Hyundai made a splash with its ix35 which is meant to replace its own Tucson. Hyundai has kept the pricing for this model really aggressive.

Volkswagen, mostly known for its luxury sedans is now concentrating on the entry level market as well, as is evident from its latest moves. Its Polo Vivo sold well and it gave good competition to rivals from the stable of Ford and GM. When it comes to the best selling entry level car of 2010, it is hard to find a model that comes close to the success of Chevrolet’s Spark. Its edgy styling and affordable pricing has made it a popular choice for the first time buyers.
