Washington DC, Nov 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In yet another recall, more than 2.1 million drop-side cribs by Stork Craft Manufacturing of Canada are being recalled due to reports of four infant suffocations in these cribs. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the recall would affect around 1.2 million cribs in the United States and almost 1 million in Canada, where Stork Craft is based. Out of these cribs, almost 150,000 of the cribs have the Fisher-Price logo.
CPSC said that the drop-side cribs have a side whose aim is to move up and down to allow parents to carry their children from the cribs quiet easily. And this is one of the major culprits in the crib recall as it detaches and was responsible for 110 hazardous incidents.
The CPSC representative said that the parents should abandon such cribs or at least order plastic parts to immobilize this part of the crib. “The commission will write regulations in the next few months and we will look at this issue about drop-sides,” Tenenbaum said. “But I don’t think drop-sides will be a part of cribs in the future.”
These Stork Craft cribs have had many hardware problems, as they can break, deform or go missing after years. CPSC also said there can also be problems with assembly mistakes by the crib owner, which might prove hazardous for the children in those cribs.
