UAE aircraft with arms resume flight from Kolkata
September 7th, 2009 - 1:29 pm ICT by IBNSKolkata, Sept 7 (IBNS) A United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force aircraft that was detained along with its nine crew members at the Kolkata airport after customs officers found a large cache of arms and ammunitions inside the plane, has been granted permission to fly.
“The aircraft landed at NSC Bose International Airport Sunday night for refueling. But during customary checking, we found a large stock of arms and ammunitions inside the craft. But the crew never mentioned about the arms to the airport authorities before taking permission to land here. So the plane was grounded and its nine members detained,” said a customs officer here Monday.
However after a late night emergency meeting with customs officials, senior airforce officers and the UAE crew, the airport authorities gave permission to resume flight Monday morning, the officer said.
The plane was flying to Hanyang in China from Abu Dhabi.
