Hyderabad, India, Apr 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik tied the knot on Monday at a five-star hotel in Hyderabad following traditional Muslim customs. All the family members and close friends of the pair graced the occasion to offer their best wishes to the newly wedded couple.

The much-awaited wedding ceremony reportedly had to be advanced as Shoaib Malik’s decision to stay in the Mirza residence before the wedding had attracted the wrath of the Muslim clerics. According to a spokesperson of Sania Mirza, the celebrity couple married each other in a ’simple ceremony’ that was held at the Taj Krishna Hotel. In order to attend the ceremony, lose relatives of Shoaib Malik flew in to be part of the wedding. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that according to the Muslim rituals, the ‘mehr’ which was given to solemnize the marriage was fixed at a whopping 61 lakh.

The marriage of two leading sportsperson of India and Pakistan brings to an end a complex tale in which an Indian women, Ayesha Siddique alleged that the Pakistani cricketer had tied the knot with her in 2002. As the drama got murkier every passing, Shoaib Malik decided to end the tussle by divorcing the woman he claimed he had never married in the first place. However, the marriage of the ace Indian tennis star with Shoaib Malik grabbed widespread attention as it brings together two countries which are known for their differences.
