Midnapore, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) “All the train passengers and the drivers of the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express are fully in control of the Central government, Home Secretary G K Pillai said on Tuesday evening. Centre has rushed a train to bring the passengers”, Pillai added.
“An engine has been set off from Jamshedpur to pilot away the stalled Rajdhani”, the Railway sources said. This was done to ensure that there are no bombs waylaid on the tracks. It is then planned to take the Rajdhani to Jamshedpur thereafter, the sources added.
The Home Minister Chidambaram said that “The Rajdhani is under our control. No exchange of fire took place.” A Relief train with doctors and other supplies has already left from Kharagpur.
The initial reports in this train crisis had suggested that the drivers were kidnapped, but the train’s driver Anand Rao denied it. “We saw a red flag on the track and stopped the train. Soon we were surrounded by hundreds of people who asked us to disembark and sit outside. Out mobiles and walkie-talkie sets were snatched but we weren’t kidnapped,” Rao told Headlines Today on the phone.
Rao said the attackers included women and children. “We were told we wouldn’t be harmed unless we tried to start the train,” he said.
There are conflicting reports about the aim behind stopping the exclusive train Rajdhani. According to local sources, the PCPA had abducted the drivers and wanted its leader Chatra Dhar Mahto released in exchange. Another version was that the group sought action and relief against police atrocities.
