cwgNew Delhi, Oct 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much-anticipated Commonwealth Games 2010 kick started in New Delhi on Sunday night with a spectacular opening ceremony that turned out to be a huge success. The ceremony which was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of the national capital was successful in dazzling the large number of crowds who had turned up for the event as well as the athletes and officials from the 71 Commonwealth nations who would be participating in the event.

In the wake of the controversies that the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi has been marred with, the fact that the opening ceremony went on smoothly without any kind of glitches must have come as a huge relief to the organizing committee of the multi-sports event. The colorful and magnificent opening ceremony was surely able to set a standard of the CWG curtain raiser with a spectacular display of performances highlighting the culture and heritage of the nation. One of the highlights of the event was when the curtain raiser was rounded off by Oscar-winning music director A.R. Rahman who performed with much elan the theme song of this year’s Commonwealth Games. The multi-sports event that would be continuing till October 14 with countries from across the world competing in various categories, was finally inaugurated by Prince of Wales Prince Charles when he announced the opening of the CWG 2010.

Amidst all the fanfare during the opening ceremony, there was one person who would regard the event as an uncomfortable experience and that was none other than Suresh Kalmadi, the chairman of the organizing committee. When Suresh Kalmadi went on stage for the opening ceremony, the audiences booed him turning it into a huge embarrassment for him.
