An explosion in Kolkata’s (Calcutta) Chitpur area today evening.

The blast is said to have occurred at a scrap iron shop today.

The actual source of the blast is being investigated. Weather it was a bomb or a gas cylinder is not known yet. Some reports state that 2 children have died in the blast.

This is the latest in series of blasts in India after Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Surat. Kolkata had earlier been identified as a target for attacks by the group responsible for the Ahmadabad blasts.

On June 30th, Kolkata had been placed on high alert after an e-mail from the terrorist group India Mujahideen to a TV channel and other media houses warned of blasts at the Calcutta High Court and at a top private hospital.
