October 6th, 2009 - 8:45 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMadurai, Oct 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There has been a small blast in the Cholavandam Railway station which is the first station outside Madurai, in which at least 3 people are feared dead. Cholavandam is a small suburb near Madurai.
The blast was strong enough to blow away the roof of the railway station. The blast happened on the platform no 2 of the railway station.
This blast happened when a passenger train was entering the station at around 6:05 in the evening. There was a loud blast and a string of smaller blasts, which seemed that it might be a big box of Diwali crackers that might have caught fire and caused the explosions, however this speculation is yet to be confirmed. But unconfirmed sources say that, firecrackers were being off-loaded at the time of the blast.
The Inspector General of Police Mr Krisnamurthy said that the Police are looking into the incident and suspects are still to be apprehended, and full details are awaited.
The 3 victims, who lost their lives in the blast are still to be identified. They are 2 men and 1 lady. Luckily children were spared from any causalities.
It is still not clear whether this is a terror attack or not.
More details are still awaited.
