At least five die after stampede at spiritual center in northern India

NEW DELHI (BNO NEWS) — Five women were killed and others were injured in a stampede at a spiritual center in northern India on late Thursday, according to a local media report on Friday.

Five women were killed and several others injured in a stampede inside the premises of religious sect Dera Sacha Sauda in Haryana, triggered by rumours about the presence of a snake, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place during a gathering at the Dera Sacha Sauda commune in the northern India state of Haryana. Thousands of people had gathered there to mark the foundation day of the religious Dera Sacha Sauda sect

Sirsa Deputy Commissioner Yudhvir Singh told NDTV that, according to a preliminary investigation, someone spread a rumor about the presence of a snake that led to the stampede.

It was not immediately clear how many people were injured.
