Chandigarh, Nov.6 (ANI): Having played cricket during his youth and early adult life and then establishing himself as an actor in Punjabi cinema, Yograj Singh is now all set to launch himself in Bollywood. Father of stylish Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Yograj had to quit his first passion cricket following a major injury. He moved towards Punjabi cinema, acting in 100 films. Today, he is looking forward to Bollywood as his next destination.
Yograj Singh, the Punjabi actor, says: Though I have performed the roles of a hero and a villain, there are some dream roles like the role of Prithavi Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar in Mughal-e-Azam, the characters played by Amithabh Bachchan, which I would like to essay. As an artist, one should not ever be satisfied. I always tell my son Yuvraj Singh that till the time he plays cricket, he should always consider himself a student of cricket even if he becomes a legend. I am in a learning period because I believe I don”t know anything. I have to achieve many things not only through Punjabi cinema but I am looking towards Bollywood as well. Punjabi filmmakers are in the habit of copying. I also tried to copy Mustafa Quershi a Pakistani actor who is my idol. But I failed to copy him even 10 per cent. Filmmakers stereotyped me as an actor though I played serious as well as romantic heroes. Due to the repetition of characters like Jatt’’s and some identical concepts, I stopped doing Punjabi films, said Yograj. People don”t normally get a second chance at this age as they are preparing to retire or die. But god has encouraged me to start again, he added.
I am sure one day I will have name and fame in the field of acting. The day I get Film fare’’s Best Actor award, the day everyone applauds my work and when I die, if people praise me, then that would be an achievement for me, he added. (ANI)
