“Shams-ud-Din Mir, 25, was shot from close range by militants in Chankhan locality of Sopore town this (Saturday) evening. Mir died on the spot,” a senior police officer said here.
Mir was a street vendor selling fruits on his hand cart in the town.

Sopore, 54 km from summer capital Srinagar, has been a hotbed of separatist violence ever since the armed violence started here in early 1990s.
