World Cup 2011 spurs creativity in Moradabad cricket fans
February 23rd, 2011 - 6:22 pm ICT by ANIMoradabad, Feb.23 (ANI): With World Cup fever intensifying, students and teachers in Moradabad have created an array of cricket-themed henna tattoos and tapestries.
Many sported henna tattoos on their hands and arms showing the ICC World Cup trophy set amid traditional motifs.
Some fans have also created replicas such as cricket-themed sand sculptures and confectionery.
“We have made the World Cup trophy with henna to cheer for India because we want our country to win the World Cup this year,” said cricket buff, Saba Khan.
Artisans worked speedily to produce cricket-themed embroidery pieces. The favoured designs included the World Cup trophy, cricket balls, bats and wickets.
“We have given a message that Indian team should emerge as winners of the World Cup, and the name of our country should go higher and we will get the Cup after 25-28 years. We feel so excited that we are not able to express our feelings for our team, and all the students have participated with a lot of enthusiasm,” said Rachna, another cricket fan.
Cricket is almost like a religion in India and with the country co-hosting the World Cup along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the excitement is palpable. (ANI)
