New Delhi, Dec 8 (ANI): A two-day Workshop on Wildlife Conservation for media person begins here tomorrow.

The objective of the Workshop is to sensitize media persons on various issues relating to wildlife conservation.

It is being organized in interactive mode with identified persons providing their inputs on assigned topic and thereafter opening the topic for discussion.

The range of topics to be covered during the two day workshop include, introduction on forest and wildlife issues in India, media and wildlife conservation, defending nature with moving images, legal framework for conservation, wild animal trade, trafficking and enforcement, extinction of tigers from Panna & Sariska, reintroduction of species, people and wildlife and science, ethics and conservation.

Quality inputs from expert resource persons would help in meaningful and purposeful discussion. A film, ‘SOS- Save Our Sholas’ by Shekar Dattatri ‘ will also be screened. World wide, conservation of biodiversity is a big challenge for Governments and Societies. The decline and extinction of species has been accelerating due to overexploitation, degradation and fragmentation of habitats.

Harmonizing the conflicting demands and resources requires engaging all stake holders particularly the poor people living in and around the wildlife reserves.

Media persons have to play significant role in facilitating this process of engagement by bringing facts before the people on various issues and articulating it to the people at large for building public opinion.

The workshop is an attempt by Ministry of Environment and Forests to help in this process. (ANI)
