Women separatists in Kashmir protest against alleged rights violationMarch 19th, 2009 - 8:21 pm ICT by ANI
Srinagar, Mar 19 (ANI): Hundreds of women separatists took to streets on Thursday to protest against alleged human rights violation in the region.
They raised slogans and brandished banners during the demonstration. They urged the State Government to check violation of rights in the Kashmir Valley.
The protest is for the prisoners who are languishing in jails despite being innocent. It is against the scores of people who were arrested and have gone missing. Over 100 thousand civilians have been killed and around 11,000 have disappeared since 1989, said Hafiza Jaan, a protester.
Officials say over 43,000 people have been killed in the revolt since 1989. Human rights watchdogs put the toll at about 60,000 dead or missing. (ANI)
