Woman among four killed in Kashmir gun battle

Jammu, April 19 (IANS) A woman, two security personnel and a militant were killed in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday, police said.
A group of three militants ambushed a security patrol party in the Kashtigarh forest belt of Doda district in the morning. A policeman and an army trooper were killed in the attack.

A fierce encounter broke out in the forest belt following a joint search operation by the police and the army.

One of the militants was gunned down but two managed to escape, the police said.

The woman, Shahida, who was caught in the crossfire, died of a bullet injury, the police said.

This is the second gun battle in Doda in as many days. On Saturday, two militants and a woman militant were killed in an escalated violence ahead of the polls.

Doda goes to polls April 23.
