West Bengal CM files nomination papers in Jadavpore
April 5th, 2011 - 6:29 pm ICT by ANIJadavpore, Apr 5 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee filed his nomination on Tuesday as a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) candidate from the Jadavpore constituency for the state polls.
Bhattacharjee went to the treasury building of South 24 Parganas district and joined the poll fray from the seat from where he has won five back-to-back elections since 1987.
“Buddhadeb Bhattacharya had arrived at this office of the returning officer of 150-Jadavpur AC (Assembly Constituency) and submitted four sets of nomination paper signed by different proposals for his nomination from 150 Jadavpur assembly constituency,” said Tanvir Afzal, sub-divisional officer of Sadar, Alipore constituency.
Bhattacharya is seeking re-election from Jadavpur that will go to polls on April 27 in the third phase of assembly elections in West Bengal.
Notification for filing of nominations for the third phase of elections involving 75 constituencies in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and South Parganas districts was issued on April 2. The last date for filing of nominations is April 9.
The state will have elections in six phases. The first phase of voting will take place on April 18, second phase on April 23, third phase on April 27, fourth phase on May 3, fifth phase on May 7 and sixth phase on May 10.
The total number of assembly constituencies in West Bengal is 294, of which 68 are reserved for the Scheduled Castes and 16 for the Scheduled Tribes.
The Election Commission has said that polling will take place at 51,919 polling stations. (ANI)
