Wendy Richard lifts the lid on her departure from EastEndersOctober 6th, 2008 - 4:55 pm ICT by ANI
London, Oct 6 (ANI): Former EastEnders actress Wendy Richard has spoken out about why she left the BBC soap after 21 years.
The 65-year-old, who has revealed that she is dying of cancer, quit over a proposed storyline in which her character, Pauline Fowler, would remarry.
In her first interview since she was diagnosed with the aggressive form of the disease, she said that her ill health had nothing to do with leaving the programme in 2006.
Health had nothing to do with my leaving EastEnders. I left because I wasnt happy. Also, I couldnt believe in what they wanted me to do and unless I can find some truth in what I am doing, I cannot play it, the Daily Express quoted her, as saying.
Pauline remarrying was wrong. Some women never re-marry. My mother never remarried after Daddy died. I always had it in my heart that Arthur was Paulines husband and that was that, she added.
Wendy stressed her decision was no reflection on Ray Brooks, the actor who played Paulines would-be second husband Joe Macer.
Dont get me wrong. Im not talking about personalities at all Im talking about storylines, she said. (ANI)
