Voters casting ballot in Manipur council elections
May 26th, 2010 - 2:16 pm ICT by ANIImphal, May 26 (ANI): Elections in the three Manipur District Councils of Chandel, Churachandpur and Sadar Hills began today from 7 a.m.
Over two lakh voters will exercise their franchise to elect 39 representatives to these autonomous district councils (ADCs). Voting is taking place in 221 polling stations.
Chandel, Churachandpur and Sadar Hills have 24 seats each, but 33 candidates have already been declared elected unopposed, reports said.
The second phase polling of ADCs would be held on June 2 in Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Senapati districts.
Miscreants reportedly set fire to Henglep and Seizang polling stations in Churachandpur district this morning but polling continued after arrangements were made. (ANI)
