New Delhi, Nov 23 (ANI): Addressing the conference of Directors General and Inspecters General of Police here on Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said the virus of communal violence that threatens the secular fabric of our country needs to be checked in time.

Dr. Singh said inability of intelligence agencies and police to obtain pinpointed and actionable intelligence in time has enabled naxals to carry out high profile attacks.

The Prime Minister suggested the task force to develop within 100 days integrated capability to address emerging challenges in areas on left-wing extremism, terrorism and insurgency.

Earlier, Union Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil strongly favoured a multi-pronged approach to deal with terrorism, and called upon the affected states to raise Special Counter Force to tackle the menace.

Opening the two day conference of the top brass of Police in New Delhi, Patil said on Saturday that terrorists are using sophisticated small weapons and explosives at present.

But, he warned that the terror groups might use nuclear, biological and chemical devices besides psychological devices in future.

Patil pointed out that to create a fear psychosis, the terrorists choose targets, which can lead to largescale disturbance. That is why they appear to be attacking the religious places to create conflicts between people of different religions, he said.

Ruling out a POTA like law, Patil said relevant provisions of the repealed act had been introduced in the unlawful activities Act.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will address the conference on Sunday and give away the President’’s Police Medals for distinguished Service.

The Conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police is organised by the Intelligence Bureau. (ANI)
